The Jacarandas have been amazing this year in Adelaide. Talk about Purple Haze. They say that the prolonged drought has affected them and they are not only covered in flowers but the flowers are the most amazing purple.
I found this on the web:
“People in Australia sing a Christmas song about Jacaranda trees, as the blooms are only seen in summer time — as the song explains, “When the bloom of the jacaranda tree is here, Christmas time is near”.
Hmm. I don’t know that song. Must be in some other Australia.
However, the Blue Jacaranda is a native of Brazil that grows particularly well in many areas of the world. Here it grows in South Australia and New South Wales particularly well. Grafton in NSW even has its own Jacaranda Festival.
Lots of people this year have posted photos of Jacaranda - proving that they are particularly outstanding this year. Have a look at Martin Place in Sydney, Fry Reserve in Sydney, and one in Adelaide that I walk past every day on my way into the city.
The other delightful sight is after rain or wind, there is a wonderful purple carpet under the jacarandas. They say that if you walk under a jacaranda tree and one of its sweet trumpet flowers falls on your head, you are truly blessed.
And even through other trees, even the gum tree outside my window, the jacaranda shines through.
At my place, the last of the left over Diwali lamps are lit …..
Siva is garlanded by lamp light …..
tulips are also beautiful by lamp light even when they are failing ….
and flowers, always flowers …..

Your blog is a delight! Thank you for commenting on my blog, as that is how I found you. Your photography is stunning!
It was a breath of fresh air to see the jacarandas in bloom, as it is winter here. We have jacarandas in our neighborhood that bloom in March, and instead of heralding Christmas for us, they herald spring. Either way, their periwinkle sunshine is a delight.
I love the pictures of Siva and the flowers.

yeah, we learned that song at school
i suspect rolf harris might have recorded a version of it.
Christmas where the gum trees grow
There is no frost and there is no snow
Christmas in Australia’s hot
Cold and frosty is what it’s not
When the bloom of the jacaranda tree is here
Christmas time is near.
From England came our Christmas fare
They even said what Santa should wear
But here down under for summer’s cool
Santa should dip in a swimming pool
Santa rides in a sleigh on snow
But down here where the gum trees grow
Santa should wear some water skis
And glide around Australia with ease
To ride ’round the bush where it’s often dry
To cart all the presents piled up high
A red-nosed reindeer would never do
Santa should jump on a kangaroo.

Pretoria or Tswane City in South Africa is known as the Jacaranda City for all the Jacarandas that bloom in spring. It looks gorgeous, especially when the purple blooms cover the roads. And when one falls on your head before the year-end exams you are supposed to do well in your papers.

I love purple and blues than rose or white in flowers. What a walk it would be passing through those fallen flowers…
