Travel Thursday #1: A night in Singapore

Singapore Food Market

Recently, on my travels, I spent a night in Singapore. Checking in to my hotel in Changi Village near the airport, I headed down the road to the local temple, and then through a food court. I finally settled on a wonderful Indian outside diner, where I ate very well for about $S4. It was so good, I skipped the hotel breakfast the next morning, and visited the diner again. Delicious. If I was staying a week, I would eat there every night. Service is a bit non-communicative, but the food is the best Indian I have had outside India. It now surpasses that wonderful South Indian place in Lock Road, Tsim Sha Tsoi in Hong Kong as top of the list for places to eat with the most authentic and flavoursome food outside of India.

I don’t have any pictures of the Indian diner, but, instead, here are a couple of shots from the rear of stalls in the food court.

what’s the name of the place? we’d like to visit it the next time we are in singapore.

Hi Bee, Soon as I have time to look through my travel notes, I will let you know. For the life of me, I can’t recall it. It is an outside diner, very low class with a small menu but, at least when I was there, great food. It was such a joy - I can’t get real Indian food here. Every Indian restaurant serves the same dozen vegetarian dishes, and they all taste the same. Sigh.

Some more information as I gradually sort out all of the things I brought back from the trip.

    The diner is
    Dynamic India Stall
    Outdoor Food Court
    Netheravon Road, Singapore

Wow. This place must have really been amazing for you to replace Hong Kong’s as your highest recommendation!

I love the place in Hong Kong. It is called Brantos and is quite hard to find if you don’t know where it is. It is on Lock Road in TST, on the first floor. You enter through an inconspicuous door, where you have to press a button to have the door unlocked for you. Then you go up a creaky lift to the restaurant.

However, this place in Singapore, I loved its down-market style, heaps of atmosphere, no one there spoke English, but they did their best to accommodate me, and I had not had real good Indian for so very long. I am sure there are are really good Indian places in Singapore, particularly around Little India, but this was so close to my hotel and so very nicely satisfied my appetite after a visit to the lovely Devi temple.
