From the Tastespotting website. It seems that due to some sort of legal issues, the wonderful food website has been closed down.
[Update] After disappearing from the web altogether for a few days, it is currently back up with a small teasing message. Also check a later post, where TS herself left a message.

How can it be? So sad.
I know! So sad.

What a terrible shame. It’s always been a great source of new and fabulous images.
Let’s hope that Flickr doesn’t disappear!!
Have a lovely weekend, my dear. I hope you got some rain.
Some rain here last night – quite heavy for a short time. I wonder what the implications of tastespotting will be for the rest of the internet, esp food blogs. I am sure this will ripple around for some time.
A good weekend to you too. A weekend of much deliciousness

No. Since when? I was so happy drooling over the photos.
Since just a few hours ago. Can you believe it? The gossip around the internet is that it is to do with copyright issues. But it is only guessing. There is no real information.

No I can’t. I thought photos were submitted and I am sure given the website’s quality it would have driven a lot of good quality traffic. Yeah looked up the gossip.
I think the issue was when photos were submitted by people other than the blogger / author /photographer. I think it was common for some people to submit other people’s work. There was one person who used to submit many posts (not their own) each day. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen them on Tastespotting for the last couple of months. Maybe as a result of the legal complications.

and abt the submission of pics..one of the pics from my site appeared there without my submission, but I didnt make a riot out of it!
I noticed that there was one submitter who regularly submitted other people’s photos. It will be interesting to see whether it is a copyright issue.

I am so upset. I noticed that the content was slow yesterday. I usually check it at least once a day. what am i going to do on my lunch hour now? GAAAA i hope this is a friday the 13th joke. but it is NOT funny!
Yeah, me too. They weren’t updating. That has happened on the rare occasion in the past. I wasn’t worried. And then last night! We will have to form Tastespotters Anonymous, I think

That’s too bad. We may not know the real issues for some time. I’m sure they have been instructed by counsel not to speak publicly. Initial impact for food blogs would be a drop in visits for those sites that submitted their work and had it properly link credited. Tastespotting really had the lead in driving traffic.
You are absolutely right, Susan. I doubt that we will hear about it until maybe it hits the courts. I am not looking forward to the drop in traffic. C’est la vie.

It blew my mind! I did a search for info, thinking I was the only one so upset about it. It seems I’m not alone. I wrote about the disappearance of the site yesterday. Someone anonomously commented on my blog that they have it on good authority that it is not a copyright issue. I don’t know who’s authority they have, but if it’s not a copyright dispute, then what?
We might never know, I guess. But I doubt that anonymous comments carry any weight.

I think we are all in shock.
