You know what? In hot weather I love a lassi, particularly a fruit lassi, for breakfast. Indian in origin, fruit lassi drinks mix yoghurt with fruit, spices and jaggery or sugar.
Today, there were peaches on the kitchen bench, strawberries in the fridge and basil in the garden. A beautiful breakfast was born in the shape of a lassi.
Strawberry and Peach Lassi with Basil
2 cup Indian (Dahi) Yoghurt or Greek Yoghurt
2 medium peaches, stones removed and chopped
half a handful of strawberries
1 sprig basil (optional)
1 cup water or milk
6 – 8 ice cubes
1 – 2 Tblspn jaggery or sugar, according to taste
0.25 tspn cardamom powder (optional)
0.25 tspn cinnamon powder (optional)
tiny pinch salt
Mix all ingredients in a blender until nice and frothy. Serve chilled.
