Fig Salads are extremely Autumnal, and beautiful, enlivening. They make you forget about the cold weather to come, and just add joy to the table.
Figs and almonds go very well together, and so do figs and hazelnuts. In this salad, hazelnut oil is used to sizzle some sliced hazelnuts before adding them to figs that have been warmed through in the oven.
Fig Salad with Hazelnuts and Mesclun
Heat some olive oil and hazelnut oil in a sauté pan. Halve some figs, and warm them the pan over medium heat. Add the figs to a bed of mesclun. In the pan, top up the oil if necessary and add some sliced hazelnuts. Allow them to sizzle for a moment. Add a little verjuice or vinegar. Spoon them over the figs and salad leaves.
